Website and point of sale development for a leading UK leisure brand
When a major UK leisure brand needed to modernise its Point of Sale development and customer-facing technology across 63 venues — and expand into the US — it needed a development partner with the capability and agility to deliver on both fronts simultaneously.
Modernised as part of a wider global expansion programme
To deploy multiple development squads across the UK and US
Supporting a portfolio of small and large-scale development projects

Define
A major UK leisure brand, operating bowling alleys, mini-golf centres and music venues, was modernising its digital estate as part of a strategic growth agenda that included significant expansion into the US.
Its legacy Point of Sale (PoS) solution and website were functional, but falling short. Neither could deliver the user experience, ease of operation, scalability or technology flexibility needed across all venues, nor support the ambition to attract and retain the best talent in the leisure industry.
The business needed a partner with genuine global development capability and the flexibility to scale resource up and down across all disciplines, from product management and quality assurance (QA) to engineering, deployment and operations.

Deliver
Definia deployed multiple development squads within five working days, with an initial focus on enhancing the full software development lifecycle (SDLC), introducing specialist DevOps capability and launching a defined QA strategy across both the UK and US.
Key outcomes included:
- A new UI/UX (user interface and user experience) design and reference architecture to modernise the legacy website and operations, fully integrated with online booking for bowling and mini-golf, and a new PoS sales workflow
- A successful UK trial, with component design and effective change management enabling a smooth handover, allowing the client to progress its global rollout independently
- Tight integration with existing development pods across the UK and US, giving the client the confidence and capability to scale without ongoing dependency on external support
By the time the UK trial concluded, the client had more than a modernised technology estate: it had the processes, the capability and the confidence to take its global rollout forward independently.
